Baltic Sea Region Network on high-power laser welding: Experts gathered at LORC
International experts gathered at LORC to discuss how to apply high-power laser welding in the production of, amongst other, wind turbine towers and foundations. The two days seminar in the beginning of November 2012 is part of the LORC initiated network aiming to gather forces and optimize meaningful collaboration between Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, and Russia.

Smart production and competitiveness are key words in the Baltic Sea Region network of experts within high-power welding. Gathering experts from both industry and academia LORC will highlight the need for new and smarter production methods within the green offshore industry. The aim is a regional continuous exchange of ideas and collaboration on development projects of both research and innovative character.
The participants at the seminar visited the newly established company Lindoe Welding Technology (LWT), owned jointly by LORC and FORCE Technology. LWT has purchased a 32kW ultra-high power laser system with the purpose of developing new welding methods for the heavy industry sector. The laser system will arrive in early December, where it will be integrated with a precise industrial robot; thereby making LWT ready to serve its customers.
High-power laser welding methods promise smarter production of wind turbines which are welded constructions when an estimated capacity of 4.800 MW offshore wind energy is to be installed within the European Union towards 2015. The initiative to establish an expert network is financially supported by the Danish Enterprise Agency.
