LORC - March 2011Many new contacts for LORC at EWEA 2011 A 1:77 scale model of the Lindoe Nacelle Test rig as well as free copies of the first issue of the offshore renewables magazine ‘OceanWise’ were to be seen, and both technical and communications staff from LORC participated in the annual EWEA conference and exhibition. Representatives from the political and technical world visited the stand. The EU Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, stopped by for a chat about the urgent need for better and more realistic testing of offshore installations. Lykke Friis, the Danish minister for Climate and Energy, also visited the stand to discuss the possibilities for advancing offshore renewables with acting CTO at LORC, Claus Kurt Christensen. See photos here. Many visitors expressed the desire to learn in more detail about the Lindoe Nacelle test rig (LNT) and they asked about the facilities at Lindoe Industrial Park, the former Odense Steel Shipyard where LORC is located, with regard to its logistics, infrastructure, crane capacity etc.
Also, several meetings were held with potential suppliers for the Lindoe Nacelle Test rig project (LNT). LORC is sharing knowledge In mid March, LORC launched LORC Knowledge, an online database for offshore renewables, which is updated on a regular basis. For instance, the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm has been added to the “Offshore Renewables Map” since the launch. You can find technical data on such different subjects as: pitch systems, rated power per turbine, dimensions of the nacelle, export cable type, installed capacity, estimated project costs, and much more.
In LORC Knowledge you can also find: - a global overview of suppliers and developers for the offshore renewables sector; and,
- articles about wind turbine support structures, wave energy technologies and welding methods.
In the first issue of OceanWise you can read about such things as: - The four innovative types of support structures selected among 104 concept designs
- The challenges facing the harvesting of wave energy
- Test centers for wind and wave energy
- The state-of-the-art in installation vessels
As a subscriber to LORC you will receive the next issue of OceanWise as a link in our newsletter. International offshore foundation manufacturer to Lindø Industrial Park LORC is happy to observe that Lindø Industrial Park has signed a conditional contract with the Dutch company Smulders Wind Turbine Constructions. The company is the European market leader in the production of towers and foundations for offshore wind farms. This agreement is an important step towards the creation of a center for testing, production and knowledge about offshore renewables at Lindø Industrial Park.
