Wave Star can supplement our energy consumption
Waves have the potential to play an important role in meeting the future needs of a high and stable production of green energy together with e.g. wind and solar energy.
The Danish company Wave Star is a world leading developer of wave energy converters with several years of successful testing at sea.
With the installation of a 1:10 scale machine in 2006 and a section of a 600 kW machine in 2009, Wave Star has demonstrated that it is possible to harvest the energy from the waves. A patented storm protection system has made Wave Star able to survive in the tough surroundings.
The first commercial wave energy converters will be ready for the market in 2012/13 with a production up to 6 MW per installation, equivalent to off-shore wind turbines.
Wave Star is owned by the Clausen family from Danfoss.
