Europe’s Opportunity
It takes will and investments
Europe can become a world leader within offshore green energy. However, it will not happen if the ambitions of the Community and the Member States stay on the current level, which is too low. However, with the right mixture of will, active partnerships, R&D, planning, and incentives Europe can create millions of new green jobs and keep the knowledge, know-how, and leading position within the continent.
The EU’s long-term ambition is to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% from the level of 1990 by 2050. The European Commission highlights that the build-up of a low carbon energy system is the greatest challenge of the 21st century and the Commission expects to invest heavily in the development of renewable energy sources.
LORC and its founding companies and members are convinced that the offshore green energy will play a major, and decisive, role in Europe’s efforts to create an energy system that will ensure independence from both foreign countries and fossil fuel consummation. LORC, therefore, works actively to ensure that Europe remains serious about its 20-20-20 strategy and that European countries work cohesively. The offshore green energy will become a new industry adventure if Europe seizes this opportunity.
