Industrialization
Industry still at an early stage
Green power offshore is at an early stage.
Despite 20 years of experience with production and the installation of wind power plants offshore, even the wind power industry is still at a very early stage of development. In outline, offshore turbines are onshore turbines that have been adapted to the offshore environment, and then placed on foundations designed and produced specifically for each location. There is still much experience collection and development of offshore technology going on for the establishment of a wind power plant and each plant has a certain touch of demonstration to it.
The value chain of the green offshore industry has many missing links and industrialization will depend on filling these “holes”. LORC agrees that there is a need for a global approach to the value chain. In the past, up scaling was a major cost driver for the wind industry – now with larger turbines, cited issues such as transportation, installation, and operation are on the top of the list when industry aims for economic efficiency.
LORC aims at repeating the industrial adventure of renewable energy from onshore turbines by referring to the offshore industry as unique. Generating offshore renewable energy is not a simple question of adapting onshore turbines to offshore conditions or transferring experiences from the oil and gas industry. Offshore Green Energy is a unique business, the development of which LORC accelerates with a team of very experienced engineers and in close cooperation with researchers, advisors, and businesses.
